The Redwood City Origins

The Redwood City

Built in 1952, The Redwood City came to life at the Fabri-Steel boat yard. It was quickly bought by Crowley Marine and used heavily as a steady and reliable tug.

In 1989 the Redwood City found a new home at Star Marine, where today she roams the waters assisting Captains with all manor of tasks. As the smallest and lightest tug in our fleet, the Redwood City displays its ample dexterity moving barges with ease. Spending most of her days at Starport, she is our go to for maneuvering  floats and tugs being worked on. Truly the Redwood City is a useful addition to our fleet.

Meet The Boat

The Wheelhouse

Being small isn't always a bad thing! The Redwood City's wheelhouse is jam-packed with everything a Captain could need. With panoramic views, she's a pleasure to pilot around the Sound.

The Engine Room

With her engine room tucked away below the water, the Redwood City shows her true space. Expertly engendered, the engine room is a marvel in being  larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. Featuring two CAT D3412 TA paired with individual Tonanco TM939Ds, this little tug can deliver a major 1,260hp.

The Galley

A small yet inviting space. The Redwood City shows the world how to have all the comforts of home in a small space. With a compact leisure space all in one room, many amenities are tucked away ready for the crew.

The Winches

Despite being so light, the Redwood City can boast some impressive capabilities. With this potential, significant winches are needed. Using two front winches and her custom designed H bow, she can easily face up and unload crew at a moments notice. At the stern she displays her might, with a Markey winch capable of facilitating her maximum 36,000lb pull. Using a 1" IWC line measuring in at a massive 1,200ft, she can tow almost anything.
