The Red Bluff started life being built by Albina Engine & Machine Works out of Portland OR. Made in 1968, it was directly purchased by Foss, whom named their vessel the Dean Foss Hull no. 405. She spend her early years towing a vast variety of cargo, to eventually end up in San Francisco CA.
In 2005 the vessel joined Star Marine's fleet, being renamed the Red Bluff. She has since become the star of our fleet, having been completely overhauled inside and out. With a brand new engine room, wheelhouse, and lots of fabrication to her looks, she shines bright on the Puget Sound's waters. She spends most of her days providing services to our D.O.C. crew, towing barges filled with cars and trucks destined for McNeil Island. We can all agree the Red Bluff, though small in stature, is mighty everywhere else.
With our most up-to date wheelhouse in the fleet, the Red Bluff hosts all kinds of gadgets to navigate Washingtons waters. Having been overhauled in 2023, she shows off her new sleek lines integrated into her classic look. Completely able to be driven via a computer alone, she is the epitome of technology.
Driven by two CAT C32 TA's the Bluff can output an eyewatering 1,600hp. These tier III fuel efficient engines directly drive their Twin Disc 5225 gearboxes at a massive 5.57:1 ratio. These in turn power two independent open propellors capable of towing a whopping 33,000lb.
Take a seat in our spacious galley! With her full sized kitchen, oven and two full fridge freezers, the crew can make daily feasts for their mates. With plenty of space to stretch out, the galley is the true meeting place aboard the Red Bluff.
With a multitude of winches, the Red Bluff makes short work of her cargo. Featuring two Foss forward winches, she can face up with ease. Her showstopper is her Foss/Jagar winch, with 1,800ft of 1 3/8" IWC line, capable of towing anything we can throw at her.
